The Guardian (Burma's National Magazine) launched for the first time in November 1953. When a group of young man pooled together to publish an English language newspaper, they intended to make this newspaper clean, honest and culture wise in Myanmar. Dr. Maung Maung (Former Chief Justice and later became last president in 1988), Dr Chit Maung (famous author) and U Khin Zaw (Saya K) are one of the founding members of this magazine.
They hoped the magazine will appear as the best style of decent journalism. Since then, "The Guardian" magazine stands out as the only English language magazine in our country. It deals with culture, educational, political and contemporary affairs of Myanmar and Southeast Asia. For those scholastic studies, the magazine provides the golden key to a deep study. The Guardian magazine has been published monthly since 1953 until October 1991.
The Guardian is the chief English Language Popular Journal in Myanmar at that time. It provides intellectual nourishment for the public. In Myanmar, the magazine reaches the furthest corners; most reading rooms take the magazine, and the most of the Army Units, and schools and colleges. The magazine was distributed to many countries, such as Amarica, England, Spain, Germany, Japan and many other countries. No paper published in Myanmar enjoyed such a widespread circulation abroad or got so frequently quoted in serious books and journals at that time.
This database is complete collection of all the articles published during 38 years. It has over (480) no of articles and they are searchable by author, title, subject, year and any keywords. This will be give a valuable source of information from 1950s to 1990s. |

| The preservation of old Myanmar manuscripts project by mean of digitizing is the first one to be developed in Myanmar. It has 436 images or pages from (38) manuscripts. It has 360 records which are on different subjects in each parabaik. Parabaik content covers from 1651 to 1943. Users can view the reading or the original text making it easier to understand the contents of the manuscripts. They are searchable by Category (Subject), Date, Accession No. and keywords. Browse searching can be done by name of the Dynasties (Period) and by Subjects. |
