Between 1911 and 1935 an invaluable series of illustrated
district-by-district
Burma Gazetteers, some in two volumes, and complied by individual
colonial administrators was published - and, for the most part, reprinted in the 1950s and 1960s.
It covers history, inhabitants, agriculture and irrigation, forestry and minerals,
occupations and trade, communications systems, general and revenue administration, education, public health,
geography, geology, ethnology, religion, customs, arts, etc. of each district.
